He’s also an artist, musician, storyteller, and he owns the Lake Superior Summer Gallery and Gift shop with his wife Jude. Needless to say, he can carry a great conversation. May 11 Chermercial: a documentary and discussion with Clean North, 6 pm Vegetarian potluck followed by 7 pm film screening and discussion, Auld Kirk, 234 Main St. Thessalon.
Filmmaker Andrew Nisker asks a family to purge their home of chemicals. As he does so, the film takes the audience on an eye-opening journey through the lifecycle of the everyday chemicals the family uses. Inspiring and funny, this film was the runner-up for the Peoples’ Choice Award at the Whistler Film Festival. The Auld Kirk also has an art show and a couple of bands lined up. Bring your own snack and enjoy three movies at the library this month. The first is Disney’s “The Frog Prince”, a modern re-telling of the classic story. Next is “Where the Wild Things Are”, an adaptation of Maurice Sendak's classic children's story where an over imaginative young boy comes face to face with some real monsters. And finally, “The Timekeeper” is about an 18-year-old who loses his father and then the family farm before he moves to the Northwest Territories to become a railway timekeeper facing corrupt bosses.
May 30 Mountain Maple Run and Walk, 10 a.m., at the Mountainview Centennial Grounds, Jocelyn Twp. St. Joseph’s Island
The Island’s most charming 5 km and 10 km run. There is also a 1 km fun run for ages 9 and under. Afterward, stick around for homemade cookies, a fresh, fair cup of coffee, and prizes. Register before May 20 and pay only $20. The price goes up to $25 after that. The fee is $5 for the fun run. Registration forms are available at the three township offices on the Island.
